When they could not gain entry they obtained a key, found the body and called the police.
A post mortem examination is due to be held to determine the cause of death.
A number of roads in the area have been closed as part of the investigation and high visibility patrols are currently taking place to provide reassurance to local residents.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Crisp said: "I would like to thank local residents for their cooperation as we carry out this investigation.
"Also those motorists who have been inconvenienced because of the road closures."
He appealed for anyone with information which might assist the investigation to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
