ANDREW Blowers comes back into the reckoning this week, determined Bristol will continue building for the return of the Guinness Premiership campaign.

Not registered to play in European Challenge Cup group stages, the former All Black could feature in the club's EDF Energy Cup clashes at Llanelli Scarlets on Friday and at home against Saracens on Saturday week.

Bristol then have a weekend off before they target a maiden league win of the season when Northampton visit the Memorial Stadium on November 16.

Blowers said: "We are not focusing on the match specifically but we need a win in the league.

"There are other games coming up but wins on the way to facing Northampton will help us. We need to get back to basics. That's what we have been doing in training.

"Hopefully we can beat Llanelli and Saracens. We don't want to go into the Northampton match having lost both the EDF Energy Cup matches.

"It has been a nightmare start but we can put that behind us and move forward. There have been some positives.

"We have used the squad more. We have seen players like Iain Grieve and Redford Pennycook come through.

"Also, I would prefer we lost the first five games in a row rather than do it midway or late in the season."

Blowers has not started a match since the 33-13 defeat to Harlequins in the Premiership over a month ago.

He's not registered to play in Europe although that could change should Bristol have a back-row injury crisis.

Clubs must name a 38-man squad – 10 of which must be front-row forwards – prior to competing in the European Challenge Cup.

They can swap one only player, so Bristol players not registered, such as Mathew Turner, Junior Fatialofa, Blowers and Chevvy Pennycook, could come into the reckoning.

"No, I'm not injured. Bristol are retaining the same squad at the moment," added the Kiwi.

"Grievesy (Iain Grieve), Joe El-Abd, Dan Ward-Smith and Alfie (To'oala) have all been doing well.

"I cannot do too much about it. Everyone wants to play but sometimes it is not possible.

"You have to get on with it and support the boys."

Blowers, 33, is planning to retire at the end of the campaign and is staging two celebratory dinners – one in Bristol on November 19 and another at his former club Northampton seven days later.

Several former and current New Zealand internationals, including Tana Umaga, are lined up to attend.

Other guests for the Bristol dinner at the Thistle Hotel in Broad Street include club colleagues Mark Regan, Matt Salter, Shaun Perry, El-Abd and Ward-Smith.

A table of 10 costs £850 but individual tickets are available at £85 each. For further information go to the www.andrewblowers.com website.

Blowers, who won 11 caps for the All Blacks added: "Ticket sales for the dinner are going well. We are getting to the final stage now," he added.

"We have got some good people such as Tana Umaga, Carl Hayman and a few of the touring All Blacks coming.

"Hopefully we can get some Bristol supporters to the event too. It will be good to celebrate the end of my career.

"We are also raising money for the South West Hospice. They do a fantastic job. They really care for the families."
