Cleve's South West One survival hopes have suffered a blow after the Rugby Football Union prevented Bath senior academy players Mark Lilley, Ed Jackson and Josh Ovens from continuing their dual registration stay in Mangotsfield.

The RFU had insisted that the country's top up-and-coming youngsters play for National League clubs only, but they had relaxed this policy this season.

However, after a Gloucester Academy player ran out for a Western Counties North team, the game's governing body has stamped down on Premiership clubs sending players to amateur sides.

With hooker Lilley, and back-row forwards Jackson and Ovens not available, Cleve have been forced to delay naming their side to host Barnstaple in the league on Saturday (2.30pm).

The RFU have allowed Cleve's other Bath Academy players – Guy Mercer, Lee Audis, Ted Stagg, and Mike Ward – to remain on dual registration forms with the clubs.

"We are not allowed to play Mark Lilley, Ed Jackson and Josh Ovens any more," confirmed Cleve director of rugby Mark Davis.

"It may affect us but it is going to affect the players more. They are not going to get any rugby. The Guinness A League fixtures have finished now.

"The RFU have stopped players from playing. Bath now have to try and find a club that will take on Ed Jackson.

"Mark Lilley is likely to be 23rd man every week with Lee Mears expected to be away with England during the Six Nations, while Josh Ovens is with the England Under-20s."

Dave Healy is hoping to keep a close eye on Chippenham player-coach and former Bath and Bristol scrum-half Hentie Martens when Weston-super-Mare visit the Wiltshire club (2.30pm).

The head coach said: "Hentie's a very influential player. He is the key to the Chippenham side. He has Premiership knowledge, skills and is a good battler."

Weston welcome back second row Mike Kempton but No 8 George Sparks is unlikely to return on loan from Stourbridge for a third time this season after signing for Portuguese side Benfica.

In South West Two West, strugglers Yatton play their first match for five weeks due to games being postponed because of the weather, opponents being in cup competitions and the Christmas break.

They will be without their skipper and scrum-half Nick Garnham for their home match with Newton Abbot. The police dog handler will be on duty at the Coca-Cola Championship match between Bristol City and Wolves.

Former Clifton and St Mary's wing Chris Randell takes over the captaincy.

Avonmouth and St Mary's have both named the same squads for their rearranged match in Shirehampton.

Centre Dean Payne has left Western Counties North side Barton Hill to join Somerset One side Imperial.

Full-back Adam May (broken collar bone) makes first appearance since September when Hill host unchanged North Bristol (2.30pm).

Scrum-half Simon Weaver and lock Alex Kane return when Thornbury entertain Old Centralians (2.30pm). Bottom club Keynsham recall Rich Gay for their home clash with Widden (2.30pm).

Cleve are through to the Charles Saunders Combination Cup semi-finals after winning 19-10 against Dings Crusaders.

All the points came in the first half. Joe Hall kicked four penalties and converted Gareth May's try.

Dings replied through a Martin Gallacher touchdown and a Dan Quartley penalty and conversion.

The National Division Three South side spent almost the entire second half camped in the Cleve 22 but the hosts' defence held out.
