Black makes signings for Bitton as patience runs out
Toolstation League previews:
Bitton boss Andy Black has put his foot down in a determined attempt to re-ignite last season's title-winning form.
Having overseen a period of indifferent results, Black's patience is wearing thin. This week, he signed Frome Town's former Newport and Weymouth striker, Tom Piotrowski, and Team Bath winger Jamie Davis, a former Tottenham youth protégé.
Both men are in the squad for tomorrow's home clash with Street, and Black has also hit Melksham Town with a seven-day swoop for forward Sam Jordan, whom he describes as "pacy and sharp".
Black said: "I've told the players that last season's championship success is history and we need to kick on."
John Black is the happier of the two rival brothers currently, having steered Bristol Manor Farm to a run of one defeat in eight league games.
Tuesday's 3-2 victory at Welton followed a creditable 1-1 draw at fellow high-fliers Larkhall at the weekend, and Black, who takes his team to title-chasing Bideford, said: "It's pleasing given we're without so many players.
"It's reached the point where I'm looking at getting a new face or two in, but we'll keep battling away."
In-form Hallen have bolstered their squad by signing 16-year-old attacking midfielder Josh White, a former Bristol Rovers youngster who currently turns out for Team Bath Under-19s.
Hallen, whose manager Gary Domone claimed the league's top-boss accolade for October, have won five of their last six league games, but they host Radstock tomorrow without prolific striker Tom Collett. Justin Pritchard and Bob Pritchard return.
Jeff Meacham has hailed the return of Paul Lucas to his Brislington attack after a long lay-off with a hip problem. "Paul played in his first full game last Saturday (1-0 win at Corsham) and he was outstanding in the second half," said the manager.
Brislington entertain Barnstaple tomorrow with Jason Llama replacing injured centre-half Lee Jefferies.
Longwell Green Sports, with striker Chris Churchill available again, have signed Oldland Abbotonians skipper Jon Mayo ahead of their home match with Dawlish Town.
"Jon was an established defender at Oldland and, hopefully, he'll take his influence there into our team and become a key part of our season," Sports general manager said John Gibbs.
Reserve-team product Anthony Dando retains his place at left-back for Welton Rovers, who bid to bounce back from two straight home defeats at Melksham tomorrow.
Boss Mark Harrington said: "The players gave everything and certainly didn't deserve to lose both games."
Bishop Sutton head for Corsham Town on the back of an unbeaten four-match run, capped by Wednesday's outstanding 4-1 home thrashing of third-placed Larkhall.
"To beat a side like that so well shows just what a good performance it was," said Sutton boss Lee Lashenko.
Richard Fey has described the temporary arrival of Iain Harvey as a "major coup" for Cadbury Heath.
The Chippenham Town club captain was drafted in on loan when Heath centre-backs Tarik Whitcliffe and Neil Ward were handed suspensions.
Assistant boss Fey aims to make the most of Harvey's presence over the remaining three weeks that the ex-Bath City and Clevedon Town utility star, who has turned out three times for Heath so far, is with them.
Fey explained: "Iain is on the road back from an ankle injury and his manager at Chippenham (Adie Mings) insisted he went out on loan to get in some games.
"We're without two main centre-halves so we're looking to do one another a favour."
While Heath are at Shrewton United tomorrow, fit-again Addy Cutts returns to ease a defensive crisis as Roman Glass St George go to Devizes Town keen to atone for back-to-back defeats by Bradford Town.
Saints supremo Roger Hudd remains without defensive trio Matt Baird, Dave Greaves and Steve Moore, leaving the manager to admit: "Having them and so many other players out has affected confidence levels."
Almondsbury UWE also remain without a clutch of personnel for their home fixture with Odd Down but at least they take on the second-placed Bath outfit with a win behind them, last weekend's 3-1 victory over Minehead ending a sequence of eight straight league defeats.
"It's taking a big team effort to see us through and that spirit is heartening to me," said manager Danny Phillips.
Oldland Abbotonians travel to Bridport in buoyant mood as they strive to stretch their unbeaten run to nine games, while inconsistent Portishead Town head for Chard eager to repeat their recent 2-1 victory over the Somerset side.
Striker Danny Benn should return for Portishead after missing last weekend's 1-1 draw with Westbury, while goalkeeper Ian Ganfield has won an appeal against a lengthy suspension and returns after serving a two-game ban.
Keynsham Town, with three straight wins to draw strength from, take on leaders Wells City in an intriguing clash at the Crown Fields.
