Bitton keep up the title momentum
Hanham Minor League Under-11s: Division A leaders Bitton maintained their five-point advantage with a 4-0 away win over Yate United.
Despite an attacking display in the first half, Bitton had only a 1-0 lead at half-time to show for their efforts after a cross-shot from Sam Boulton was helped over the line by the Yate keeper.
Two confident second-half finishes from strikers Luke Saward and Jordan Cribb made the game safe before a long-distance Christian Box lob for the fourth goal added to Yate's misery.
Nearest rivals AEK Boco kept upthe pressure with a 4-1 victory over Warmley Rangers A.
They took the lead when a pinpoint cross from Georgina Lacey found Alex Whale in space to volley home.
Warmley stepped up a gear and drew level with a well-taken Jay Vile free-kick from outside the box. But Boco went back in front when a precision pass from Bradley Wheadon spilt the Warmley defence and enabled Lacey to power home their second.
With Keaton Lacey and Luke Withey working hard at the back for Boco after the break, Jack Robson netted two further goals, the second following a fine through-ball from Tommy Winstone.
Winterbourne United gained their first points of the Division A season with a deserved 3-0 victory over St Vallier.
Winterbourne dominated the early exchanges and only a smart block from Josh Shelper, when Will Partridge was clean through, stopped them taking the lead.
Partridge was not to be denied, howerver, and put his team in front after Ross Sharpe had swung in a corner.
Saints fought back threateningly but good defending by Ben Cole and Taine Buffery – plus two good saves by Ben Slade – kept them at bay.
Winterbourne extended their lead when Tom Curnock side-footed home another Sharpe corner just before half-time and Dan Kerton set up Jake Walters to score the third.
Whitchurch A and Yate Rangers fought out an exciting 3-3 draw in Division B.
After Callum Wright had hit the post early on, Whitchurch raced into a two-goal lead, Jacob Sparks making the most of a poor goal-kick to get the first and Robbie Dixon doubling the advantage after a defence-splitting pass from Wright.
Yate pulled a goal back before half-time through Nick Thomas, but Dixon set up Wright to restore Whitchurch's two-goal cushion.
Yate made a few changes at half-time and never let their heads drop, scoring two late goals to salvage a draw. Joe Wood's super pass was capitalised on by Dan Burton, who coolly found the bottom corner of the net, before Callum Martin equalised with a powerful shot after a throw-in had caused problems in the Whitchurch defence.
Led by outstanding centre-half Matt Notton, Bristol Rovers JSC boosted their hopes of winning the Division B title with a 3-1 victory over Ashton B.
Cam Shorney scored twice to take his goal tally to 28 for the season, while George Childs' raking drive from 25 yards sealed the victory.
Shorney had already seen an attempt skim over the bar before the breakthrough arrived eight minutes from the interval when Dec Carvell's free-kick found the head of Shorney, the smallest boy in the team, to put Rovers ahead.
After the break, Ash Siddal broke past two defenders, only to be tripped inside the box as he was about to fire home. Shorney stepped up to coolly convert the penalty. Ashton pulled a goal back after Rovers failed to clear a free-kick but Childs' thunderbolt settled the outcome.
A good team performance provided the platform for Bradley Stoke Youth's 2-2 draw at Shirehampton Colts in Division B.
Jack Scriven and man-of-the-match Josh Morris twice put Stoke in front but Shire battled back for a deserved point.
James Denyer netted a brace in both games as Oldland Abbotonians recorded back-to-back wins over a resilient Highridge United team to push further clear at the top of Division C.
They won the first game 4-2 thanks to two exquisite Denyer finishes and goals from Charlie Millard and Robert Bool, the latter a precision strike from a free-kick after debutant Ashley Grice had been upended.
Earlier, a magnificent double save from Alex Britton had earned the Oldland keeper man-of-the-match honours.
The second game proved a great advert for youth football. Highridge took the lead when the lively Vaan Jarrett broke clear. But Oldland responded immediately when a clever Kieran Hackett pass found Jack Haberfield, who slid in Ryan Langdon to score.
That opened the floodgates, with Harry Winnett, from star man Matthew Leat's pull-back, Will Tanner and Denyer (2), thanks on both occasions to Haberfield assists, all netting in the 5-1 success.
In the same section, Bromley Heath defeated Bradley Stoke United 2-1 with two late goals.
Stoke took the lead when a corner was turned into the net by a Heath defender but, with time running out, Charlie Mitcham fired Heath level.
His side maintained the pressure and they were rewarded with a dramatic winner when the Stoke keeper was unable to hold on to a shot from Jamie Dickinson, who jubilantly put the ball away at the second attempt.
Division D leaders Thornbury Falcons pipped Bristol Central 3-1 in an entertaining match.
Harry Shipp nipped in to bag the opener after good work by Kieron Bancroft, but Falcons often found themselves up against it and Josh Vokins, Jake Barton, Sam Hussey and Ewan Sinclair were all kept on their toes.
Keeper Dan Watkins was also in excellent form but could not prevent the visitors from equalising before the break.
The game resumed at the same furious tempo in the second half and Falcons' Asher Budd rattled the bar with a thunderous strike.
Livewire man-of-the-match Shipp teed up Jonny Skinner to restore Falcons' lead and Dan Worsley slammed home a third goal in the closing minutes to seal the points.
