Bitton boss Black unhappy with penalty decisions as Longwell Green win Toolstation League clash
Longwell Green Sports continued their bid for Premier Division honours in their first season since being promoted as they earned a 1-0 home victory over defending champions Bitton.
The only goal of the game came from the second penalty awarded to the home side, and Bitton manager Andy Black disputed the decision.
He said: "It was never a penalty – Mark Cherry chested the ball down.
"I don't mind losing, but when you are robbed by a poor decision it is hard to take."
In front of a crowd of 455, Longwell Green were first awarded a penalty in the 25th minute, when Adam Cole was brought down in the area by George Boon – a decision also disputed by Black.
Mark Summers blasted the spot-kick over the bar, but 10 minutes later Andy Summers netted Green's second penalty after Cherry infringed.
Elsewhere, Bishop Sutton beat Street 1-0 thanks to a 35th-minute goal from Leon Britton.
Hallen ran out 3-0 winners in their derby clash at Bristol Manor Farm. Tom Collett blasted in a free-kick to put Hallen ahead in the 25th minute, and he added a second in the second half after Andy Cook had extended the lead.
Brislington battled hard to earn a point from a goalless draw at Larkhall Athletic.
In the First Division, the only game to survive the frozen pitches was at Cadbury Heath, where the home side failed to give manager Lee Knighton a winning send-off as they lost 6-1 to Almondsbury UWE.
Street have snapped up goalkeeper Ryan Lewis from Toolstation League Premier Division rivals Wellington.
The young stopper has been outstanding this season and his move over Christmas is something of a surprise.
