Detective constable Steve Bark said: “These bikes are very important to the owner who has spent a lot of time and money acquiring and customising them. He is now unable to ride the bikes he loves and is facing substantial inconvenience trying to replace them.
“These bikes are very distinctive and I hope someone will recognise them. Please look out for them and if you are offered elite bikes for sale at very low prices or in suspicious circumstances please call the police straight away.”
Anyone with information about the theft should contact DC Steve Bark on 101.

“@Katachua
£5000 for a bike isn't unreasonable, considering their top end, hi spec nature. We aren't talking about solid iron frames with calliper brakes here. A lot of the components are made in very limited numbers, with real craftmanship. You can spend £500 quid on a car, but you aren't going get the performance of a ferrari!”

“@ Katachua:
The insurers will most likely refuse to pay out. I investigated cycle insurance a couple of years back and the small print was absolutely ridiculous. The "outbuilding" has to be constructed in a certain way, with a certain type of lock on the door and a certain type of lock on the bikes themselves and they must be secured to a certain type of anchor point etc blah blah etc.
I bet most people paying good money for bike insurance are wasting their money as the company will always wriggle out over small print.
Oh and I agree with others that the owner was not "asking for it". There is no excuse for crime.
There are certain measures we can take to reduce the chances of crime, and sometimes insurers insist that we take those measures to mitigate the risk.
However not taking those steps absolutely does not in anyway mitigate the crime that is committed. Even if the bikes were unlocked in the garden it is still theft to walk into the garden and remove them.
It is no defence in court for the thief to say "the bike was not welded to a ground anchor so I considered that an open invitation to walk onto the owners property and remove the item."”

“I bet their insurers were thrilled at being asked to pay out on £12,000 worth of posessions stored in an outbuilding!”

“Brandon_Hill has to be pretty sick to equate stealing a pushbike with rape.”

“Or indeed A_Mushroom, like the old saying goes he, "was asking for it" when talking about a vile act of rape”

“Mikey, that's unfair to suggest that the owner "has no excuse". It suggests that he is in some way to blame for the illegal and immoral actions of the thieves.”

“They were DISTINCTIVE, but not any longer :-(
They are probably now an untasteful shade of Matt Black, and being ridden around by some yoofs who don't realise their full value, having bought them outside the Pub last night.
Anyone who has pushbikes ;-) or any items of that value in an outhouse really ought to think about security before they are nicked. It's easy to get tracking or identity devices fitted on expensive items these days, so the owner really has no excuse.”

“I love how the Evening Post were calling these hi-spec bikes, "pushbikes", as if they've been restored from the 1950's!”

“I would seriously question keeping such valued and expensive machines in an outbuilding with little or no security!
This wasnt a simple robbery, it was well planned, executed with a view of obtaining these fabulous machines!
They knew it was there and just waiting to be taken!
So they've probably taken them out of the country by now!”
