Biker fighting for life after accident
A motorcyclist was left fighting for his life after suffering multiple injuries in a crash with a car in Hotwells.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was treated at the scene by paramedics for serious injuries to his head, chest, upper abdomen and pelvis before being taken to hospital after the accident in Merchant's Road, shortly before 5.15pm yesterday.

The rider is understood to have ended up underneath a car after the collision. The motorist was not injured.
Police closed Merchant's Road and a stretch of the A4 Hotwell Road from the crash scene towards its junction with St George's Road, Jacob's Wells Road and Anchor Road for more than three hours following the collision.
The motorcyclist was anaesthetised at the scene by the Great Western Air Ambulance team and was taken to Frenchay Hospital by road.
Great Western Ambulance Service incident support officer Neville Levy said: "The information we obtained was that the motorcycle collided with the car and the rider ended up underneath the car.
"It was clear very soon after we arrived that the man's injuries were severe, potentially life-threatening. Our crews worked very well together to treat and stabilise the patient on scene in order to transport him to hospital as quickly as possible."
The accident caused long delays for commuters heading to Avonmouth and Long Ashton.

I have one 'George', (how is it I can spell your name correctly, yet you can't?) and do something usefull with it.
Now, jog on, Son and do something usefull with yours. I hear that scientists are looking for lobotomised people to test.
You should fit the bill nicely.”

“This is just a disgusting example of how selfish people can be. Should the emergency services just let a man die in the street so people can get home in time to watch Neighbours hey?...pathetic.”

“What's the point in shouting at the cops? They're just doing their job. The clots should've been shouting at the biker and driver of the car - those are the 'tards that caused the hold up.”

“Wholetime - I know what you mean - the amount of times we've been asked to move an ambulance vehicle, because it is blocking someone..... Even as we've been loading the patient :-(”

“The Ambulance service has generally 3 resources available: a fast car, a 'normal' ambulance and the air ambulance.
They use whatever is 1) the most appropiate and 2) the closest. In this case, it could have been that he had a head injury and needed to goto Frenchay, which on a Friday evening would be a long journey, even on blue lights.
It's all about appropriate resources, not just how far away the patient is...
Comparing an old lady falling to a guy being stuck under a car (which thankfully has now turned out not to be serious) is a ridiculous comparison.”

“Why is an Air-Ambulance required?
It's only a mile by road to the nearest main Hospital.
I notice the Air-Ambulance also attended a recent incident at Knowle.
Surely the Air-Ambulance Service was set up to make rescues in inaccessible places, considering the huge cost of running it.
I saw a lady take a bad fall yesterday on the Gloucester Road and the Ambulance was called.
Did they close the road? No, they sensibly treated her on the pavement.”

“Zak, you are a complete idiot! Close just two lanes, and let the air ambulance land where? Use some common sense - I live on Hotwells road, and as a result of this had to take the long way home, through some winding roads in clifton, yet, I didn't complain about it - I assumed there was good reason, and just got on with my day. Turns out I was right - there was good reason.”

“Zak, you are EXACTLY the sort of idiot, (and it probably was you too) that asked me if I could move my fire engine so that they could carry on their journey, when the house we were at had flames coming out of the window, and two hoses from the appliance set into it and it was set into a hydrant.
The idiot's 'fortune' was told.
My mate has also had instances of cretins knocking on the door of his ambulance whilst he was resuscitating a patient and asking him to move!!! Another time he was in a Rapid Response Car and attended a '999' call, parked and was told by another idiot - "You can't park that there, my husband parks there"!!!!
Unbelievable but, sadly true.”

“I agree with Zak, likewise why not open murder and rape scenes to the public so anyone can walk through them instead of having to walk around because its so inconvienient. As this could have led to being a fatal colision it needs to be treated as a crime scene, if it inconviences you Zak then so be it.
Are we still talking about common sense Zak?”
