Bike ride to raise cash for multiple sclerosis
Twenty people will take part in a sponsored bike ride from Bristol to Pill to raise money for a multiple sclerosis centre.
The event has been organised by Emily McCarthy, daughter of Shaun McCarthy, who is fundraising manager for BrAMS, which stands for Bristol and Avon Multiple Sclerosis.
The bike ride will take place on July 26 starting at 10am at the Cumberland Basin. The 12-mile ride will end with a barbecue for the participants.
BrAMS is based at Frenchay Hospital and offers treatment, research, drug trials and MS specialist nurses. A specialist physiotherapist will soon be appointed.
The centre for multiple sclerosis patients opened in January after £250,000 was raised by BrAMS.
Most of the funds were spent on equipment instead of refurbishing to save costs if the centre is eventually transferred to the new Southmead Hospital.
Shaun McCarthy had to give up his job as an engineer because of MS but now devotes his time to raising funds for BrAMS.
Now his daughter has joined in too by organising the bike ride.
She said: "I want to raise funds for BrAMS to help people like my dad."
Anyone who would like to sponsor people taking part or would like to take part themselves, please contact Shaun at BrAMS on 0117 3402992, 07784 470177, or email shaun.mccarthy@brams.org.uk
