NEWLY-PROMOTED Oldland Abbotonians play their first-ever Women's FA Cup clash on Sunday when they host Wycombe Wanderers in the first qualifying round.

And assistant boss Steve Lavis is under no illusion about what it means to the Bristol club.

"It's probably the biggest game in our history," said Lavis. "Wycombe are in the Southern Combination, which is two levels above us. But we are really looking forward to the game."

Oldland are one of a clutch of local clubs launching their Women's FA Cup campaign this weekend, with Stoke Lane Athleticentertaining Cheltenham Town, while Bitton travel to Tetbury and Keynsham Town's Development side head for Larkhal.

Oldland – last season's Gloucestershire County Women's League champions – can take heart from their first outing in Division One (North) of the SW Women's League last weekend. They fought back from behind to wallop last season's Somerset County League champions Bishops Lydeard 5-2.

"They had beaten Swindon Town Reserves 10-0 the previous week and you could tell our girls were nervous in the first half. We hit too many long balls," said Lavis. "But at half-time we just told them to calm down and play the way they can. After that we carried on from where we left off last season."

Downend Flyers also opened with a good win, Katie Michael scoring all their goals, including one from the penalty spot, as they beat Cirencester 3-0.

In the Premier Division, Bristol Ladies Union struck late to claim a 3-3 draw against Stoke Lane. Sarah White put the Union ahead, but Faye Slade quickly levelled for Stoke Lane, who went ahead on the hour when Jade Gamlin's right-wing corner went straight in off the far post.

Fifteen minutes from time, Union equalised when Zoe Parrott scored at the far post – but Athletic immediately went ahead again when Slade lobbed home from 20 yards. Union made it 3-3 with three minutes left as Parrott netted her second.

Yate Town made a fine start in Division One of the Gloucestershire County Women's League, winning 5-1 win at Newent with goals from Jo Granger (2), Jess Morgan, Kylie Allen and Kirstie Mitchell. But Bristol & West fared less well, going down 4-0 at Cleeve West Town. In Division Two, Bitton romped to a 10-0 win over Abbeymead Rovers with Becky Jones (3), Becky Hurst (2), Laura Tugwell (2), Holly Fox, George Bragg and Eileen Carr scoring.
