Big rise in applications at college
WESTON College is bucking a national trend and has seen a massive leap in applications for its higher education courses.
Government figures released last week revealed that degree applications had fallen by eight per cent nationally compared with the same period last year – the biggest drop for six years.
But Weston College's applications for its HE courses beginning this autumn have increased by 23 per cent.
Many are from local students, who have said that studying for a degree "on their doorstep" is a more attractive prospect than studying away from home and accumulating debts.
