Bristol City winger Kevin Betsy
Bristol City.
Town boss Malpas revealed last night that talks had taken
place with Betsy last Wednesday and is now waiting to see
whether the player can thrash out an agreement to cover his
losses if he agrees to a reduced wage contract.
Betsy was a guest at the County Ground last night as Town
played their final pre-season friendly with Plymouth.
And the Malpas is hoping an agreement can be reached between
Betsy and City before the campaign kicks off on Saturday – with
other clubs now believed to be interested.
Malpas said: “We are working away to get Betsy here and he
is trying to sort something out with his club. I hope something
will be decided on Tuesday or Wednesday.
“He is keen to come here but Bristol City have a big say in
whether he gets what he is looking for (financially).”

“was such a strange signing from GJ at the time. Him and wilson were bought to push us over the line for promotion, but arent championship players. To be fair to betsy he has been used a little by GJ so if i was him id sit tight and get a good pay off. hasnt had a chance at all, when he is a better footballer than sproule”

“Betsy shouldn't be so greedy.
If it would cost City £75k to pay him off, then keep him - he might not get such a good offer later.”

“Betsy has been made available on a free transfer, thats why we won't cough up £50-£75K Robbo. The problem is though he is on Championship players wage and would need to fit into the wage structure at Swindon, which as you would imagine in League 1 is a lot lower. No doubt in the past we would have matched his City wages and continued our financial meltdown. The new owners of the club are more business like. Its not an uncommon situation, you either pay him for another year to be a bench warmer, or you get him off your wage bill by giving him a lump sum to go. Betsy is a quality player and just shows how good your squad is that he can't make the first team! Will be interesting to see how many of your ex-players will feature in Cheltenham V. Swindon in a couple of weeks time! Anyway, goodluck for the forthcoming season!”

“He would be a great signing for Rovers, he could really improve us having being schooled at City.”
