Bethan in 10th as Ellis is top
BETHAN Popel (Long Ashton) is 10th in the latest national girls' order of merit issued by the English Women's Golf Association.
Charlotte Ellis (Minchinhampton), who is expected to try to win a card for next year's European Ladies Tour, leads the women's list with Hannah Barwood (Knowle) in sixth.

■ Mike Day, 26, younger brother of Gloucestershire's top player Nick, plays for the county's second team against the Dyfed first team at Lansdown on Sunday with other Henbury members James Rowles and Jordan Williams. Home player Paul Garland and Knowle duo Louis O'Regan and Jack Trump also play.
■ Players Club duo Gordon Brand jnr and George Ryall, finished well down the field in the Travis Perkins Seniors Masters at Woburn last week. Brand shot 222 (72 76 74) and Ryall 224 (75 73 76).
■ Long Ashton's Mike Venables and Alan Smyth won the Clevedon Seniors Open four ball better ball with 42 points. Clevedon's ladies captain Susie Gibbins and vice captain Sue Bamford lost 2 and 1 to June Symcox and Janet Hambley (Enmore Park) in the Somerset Centenary Plate at Saltford.
■ The Bristol Golf Club is running a Women and Golf Week from next Monday. "This will be the ideal opportunity for ladies to try out golf for the first time," said head professional Andrew Etherington.
