Braintree Town 0 Bath City 4: The two sides of Bath City's season were on display at Braintree.

Only the saves of stand-in keeper Steve Perrin saved them in the first half.

Yet in the second period, the visitors looked like championship contenders.

Despite the four-goal margin, manager Adie Britton expressed concern at his side's display. "In the first 10 minutes they could have been three goals up," he said.

As Louis Riddle and Sean Marks scythed through the Bath defence it seemed impossible that the game could get to the interval goalless.

Bath gained the advantage early in the second period when Chris Holland headed his side in front from a Richard Evans corner. Further goals came from Gethin Jones, who headed home a Jim Rollo free-kick, and Darren Edwards who glanced a Dave Gilroy pass into the net.

Bath's fourth came with seven minutes to go. Edwards scored from the penalty spot after Braintree had been reduced to 10 men when Micky Shinn was dismissed for elbowing Sekani Simpson.

"Sometimes you just need that bit of luck," said Edwards.

"Earlier in the season I was in the side, but I got no luck.

"I missed a few chances but sometimes I couldn't believe the ball hadn't gone in. Today I've come on and scored but done nothing different than I was doing before."
