Bath City 3 AFC Totton 2: Bath City eased into the first round of the FA Cup despite a scoreline that belied their dominance.

Totton, from the Zamaretto Southern League South & West Division, started strongly, twice bringing out good saves from City's debutant keeper Ryan Robinson.

Gradually, City got into their stride and, from an inch-perfect cross by Sekani Simpson, Richard Evans fired them in front.

Five minutes later, City were two-up. This time it was Adam Connolly who took advantage as Aidan Lewis failed to control a Lewis Hogg cross, scoring from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Connolly should have increased City's total four minutes before the interval when a long-range shot cannoned back off an upright with keeper Gareth Barfoot beaten.

The decisive goal for Bath then came just after the restart. A corner from Richard Evans was headed back across goal by Chris Holland. A half-clearance by Barfoot only went as far as Gethin Jones, whose carefully-placed header gave City their third.

Evans could have made it four but his long-range effort came back off the crossbar.

City then took their foot of the pedal and very nearly paid a high price. Nathan Jack fired through a crowd of players to make it 3-1 three minutes from time, then two minutes into stoppage-time Jamie Whisken pulled another goal back to leave City hanging on for an anxious couple of minutes.
