Bath City will finally play their first game of 2010 today after Thurrock's pitch passed an inspection.

The game was in severe doubt on Wednesday due to the recent wintry weather, with Thurrock officials trying to rearrange it for Tuesday at one point, but it is now set to go ahead.

City boss Adie Britton has praised the professionalism of his players in their efforts to stay fit and focused during the enforced winter break.

"I think we are very lucky in that we have a group of professional lads at this level and they do look after themselves," he said.

"Their touch might not be as good in the first game back but there should be no problems with their fitness.

"Getting everyone together for training has been very difficult because we have lads coming in from Worcester, Swansea, Bournemouth, Yeovil and Taunton, so we have to weigh up whether it is fair to ask them to travel in these conditions.

"But we have been pretty lucky in that we have had some meaningful sessions. We managed to get some outdoor training in at the university last Tuesday, just before all the snow arrived.

"Since then we have been training at various indoor centres around Bristol. We had a spinning class on bikes on Saturday, which was a bit different and kept the lads interested.

"Every other team in our league is in the same position as us. We just have to hope we have put in as much work as anyone else."

The lack of games has allowed Mark Badman and Darren Edwards to recover from the injuries they were carrying before Christmas, meaning Britton will have a fully-fit squad to choose from.
