Plans for a Christmas ice rink in Bath's Green Park Station have been scrapped, it was announced today.

Entertainment firm Sygma had been working since January to open a £500,000 temporary ice rink for the festive period. Last week problems over the space for the site and the impact it would have on the nearby Sainsbury's store and Farmers' Market came to light and threatened plans.

Following a meeting held today a joint statement issued between Bath and North East Somerset Council, Sygma, Sainbury's, Farmers Market, and other stakeholders said:"All stakeholders met earlier today to discuss the feasibility of an ice rink under the canopy of Green Park Station during the Christmas period. "Although this meeting was constructive, it was concluded that an ice rink could not be accommodated this Christmas.

"This was because the space in question has a number of existing undertakings and it proved impossible to accommodate this proposal in addition to the existing commitments.

"During this process there has been a considerable amount of goodwill on all sides to come to a mutually agreeable solution. It is regretful the stakeholders were unable to come to an arrangement."
