Bath rugby coach Meehan to seek advice from Deans
Steve Meehan's relentless pursuit of success for Bath will see him spend part of his holiday in Australia talking rugby with Wallabies head coach Robbie Deans.
The Bath head coach flew back to Brisbane for a 10-day break after his side's 3-3 Heineken Cup draw with Toulouse at the weekend.
But while the main purpose of his holiday is to recharge his batteries and spend some time with his family, Meehan is also taking the opportunity to use Deans as a sounding board.
He met up with Deans and David Nucifora – Australia's high performance manager – during the Wallabies' autumn visit to Europe. And after a successful meeting, Meehan now plans another session in Queensland early next week.
"When they were over in November, I went and spent a day with them and it was really good," said Meehan.
"It is great to talk things through with somebody else; somebody who is not a competitor and who is going to be free with their opinions. He is somebody who has had a fair degree of success with his teams and it seems that we can pick up one or two things that can help us continue to progress.
"The good thing I have found about Robbie is that he talks in straightforward language. That is so refreshing, because rugby went all middle management for a while and we really don't need that.
"We need to keep the language straightforward, because the more you waffle on, the more your message is going to get lost."
