BATH were unable to build on a dream start given to them by Josh Low as Basingstoke took victory in the Blue Square Bet South.

The visitors flew out of the traps and were ahead inside 37 seconds.

Full-back Dan Ball cut inside Matt Warner before rolling the ball back to Low, whose shot lacked power, but was perfectly placed beyond goalkeeper Ashley Bayes.

It could have been two a couple of minutes later, but Bayes parried an effort from on-loan Tom Nicholls. Basingstoke drew level when Mark Preece was outmuscled by Delano Sam-Yorke, whose shot went through goalkeeper Jason Mellor and into the net.

It was a disappointing goal to concede and it could have got worse for City six minutes later when Tim Sills touched a cross on to Sam-Yorke, whose thumping half-volley fizzed just over the bar.

In the second half, the home side hit their winner when Simon Dunn's cut-back appeared to hit the hand of Preece but, while referee Craig Hicks was waving the penalty appeals away, Sam-Yorke played on and smashed a shot into the roof of the net.
