Bath design graduate wins top prize in competition
Her bold wallpaper designs could soon be adorning homes across the country after she won high praise from some of the country's top interior design gurus.
Bath fashion and textiles graduate Anna Hill has just topped a national talent search for the country's brightest rising star in the world of interior design.
The 25-year-old's bright bespoke creations of animals, birds and flowers wowed a panel of judges, including leading designers Sir Terence Conran, Kelly Hoppen and Philippe Starck.
They hand-picked her from among thousands of hopefuls as winner of the One to Watch competition, run by interior design website mydeco.com.
Anna, who graduated from Bath Spa University's School of Art and Design in 2007, won £1,000 in cash and a design retail contract.
Now she hopes to develop her brand to one day rival top wallpaper companies like Osborne and Little and the Designers' Guild.
She said: "My prize money is going to be such a fantastic help. I am hoping to start my own bespoke wallpaper design business and am waiting to find out about which manufacturers might take on my designs.
"It's absolutely amazing that I won – I never expected even to make the top 10. To get the phone call was such a shock as there were so many good entries."
For Anna, who has only ever been able to afford to print out panels of her work for display, the prize is a massive boost.
She said: "It's such a great opportunity, especially as it is so expensive to get the designs printed, I've never had a whole roll done.
"My favourite design is one with a tiger on it and I've put up a scrap from my exhibition in my room and some from my degree in the hall but it would be nice to have my whole range printed.
"I have 14 designs which are 100 per cent completed and I am now working on a new range. It would be my dream if I could set up a branch of my own selling and displaying them."
Among her range are intricate floral designs, fronted by spoonbills, flying ducks, egrets, hummingbirds, pheasants and swallows.
