Full-time: Bath 3 Toulouse 3. Bath must travel to Leicester in the Heineken Cup quarter-final after drawing with Toulouse in terrible conditions at the Recreation Ground.

One penalty each from Bath's Butch James and Toulouse's Jean-Baptiste Elissalde ensured Bath topped Pool Five – but the two points were not enough to give Steve Meehan's a home tie.

Instead they must head to Leicester in a repeat of the 2006 Heineken Cup quarter-final, which Bath won to set up a semi-final trip to Biarritz.

Both sides knew before kick-off that they were guaranteed a place in the last eight after results elsewhere went their way.

But with quarter-final home advantage up for grabs for the winners, Bath made the better start and took a third-minute lead through a James penalty after Toulouse killed the ball.

Bath lost skipper Michael Lipman with a head injury after just 17 minutes, the England flanker needing lengthy treatment before eventually shunning the ride on a stretcher and walking gingerly to the changing room.

Toulouse drew level with a penalty from Elissalde, who had earlier missed one, but the fly-half then missed three in a row before half-time as Toulouse got on top but could not take advantage.

James missed a 40-metre penalty in the opening minutes of the second period, before Bath emerged from a lengthy stay in the Toulouse 22 without any reward.

Elissalde failed with another penalty attempt – his fifth miss from six – as Bath were given another let-off.

Bath set up camp in the Toulouse 22 with five minutes to play, knowing a score of any kind would in all likelihood win them the game.

But after four minutes of patient phase-play, Bath – who had not even attempted a drop goal to win the match – were penalised at the ruck and their chance for victory disappeared.
