Newport County 1 Bath City 0: Bath City slipped to 16th in the Blue Square South table after a 1-0 defeat at Newport County, who went top of the league thanks to the victory.

Charlie Henry struck after seven minutes before Mark Badman, Adam Connolly and Darren Edwards all had chances to equalise for City.

The late withdrawal of striker Kaid Mohamed meant that City started with Edwards as a lone front-man, but he was isolated early in the game.

Newport took the lead when a cross found its way to Henry at the far post and he took his time before finishing.

The hosts had a couple of chances to increase their lead before City midfielder Lewis Hogg was sent up front to support Edwards and the visitors immediately looked brighter, with Badman heading over from a Richard Evans cross five minutes before the break.

Danny Rose forced a save from City goalkeeper Steve Perrin within 30 seconds of the start of the second half before the visitors took control.

However, despite long spells of possession and pressure, City had few clear-cut opportunities. The best chances fell to Connolly and Edwards, but both were blocked.

Newport offered occasional worries to City on the counter attack and substitute Dave Gilroy fired high and wide when handed an opportunity to score against the club for whom he was top-scorer for the last two season.

Despite throwing men forward during seven minutes of added time, City were unable to equalise.
