Welling United 2 Bath City 1: Two first-half goals meant Welling United continued their hoodoo over Bath City.

City have won only once in their last six visits to Park View Road and suffered a 4-0 opening-day trouncing at Twerton Park.

Goals from Teddy Sheringham's son Charlie and Loui Fazakerley after 17 and 25 minutes respectively gave the home side the advantage, and although Matt Coupe scored to reduce the deficit in the second half there was to be no way back for Adie Britton's men.

"Our problem today lay in the first 25 minutes when they put us under some pressure. They didn't create a lot of chances, but they scored from the ones they did," said Britton.

"Basically we started too slowly and didn't put pressure on their players enough. It was too open and we were punished."

In the second period City came out with greater determination and after United keeper Clark Masters had deflected a Sekani Simpson shot wide City pulled one back.

With 25 minutes to play, a Richard Evans free-kick came back off the Welling crossbar for Matt Coupe to fire goalwards.

Just seconds later Dave Gilroy shot wide, but United came back into the game and Sheringham and Fazakerley both missed late chances to extend Welling's lead.
