Bath City striker Darren Edwards should be fit for the start of the new Blue Square South season despite an ongoing knee problem.

The 28-year-old missed the final three games of last season with the injury and it was thought it might be a small tendon tear, which would have required surgery and five to six weeks on the sidelines.

But specialists have told Edwards that it should be treatable with a cortisone injection, which means he should be able to start high-intensity training within the next couple of weeks.

Most of the City squad begin their pre-season training tonight, although new keeper Ryan Robinson will be absent after undergoing a back operation.

Fellow new boy Sido Jombarti will return from his native Portugal in time to attend City's next training session on Tuesday.

Taunton Town youngster Luke Cole and Sam Wade will also be training with the club. Midfielder Wade is a Wales Under-19 international and is the son of former City player Brian.
