Bath City 1 Maidenhead United 0

Darren Edwards scored his second goal in as many games to set Bath City on their way to a first win of the season.

It was no more than they deserved after a dominant display in which they were much the better team but struggled to create clear-cut chances.

The decisive goal arrived midway through the second half and owed much to the persistence of the impressive Sido Jombati who, having played at right-back in Saturday's 4-3 defeat at Chelmsford, started up front.

He used his strength to dispossess visiting defender Nevin Saroya and then rolled the ball through to strike partner Edwards, who took a touch before coolly beating keeper Chris Tardif at his near post.

Edwards had squandered arguably the best chance of the first half when Sekani Simpson's mis-hit cross fell perfectly at his feet eight yards out but he scuffed his shot.

Simpson also set up Jombati following an excellent run and cross but the Portugese player's prod goalwards was superbly saved at full stretch by a diving Tardif.

Maidenhead offered very little in attack, being limited to a couple of long-range shots which keeper Will Puddy – who was at fault for all four goals at Chelmsford – dealt with confidently.

However, they did almost snatch a point in the fourth minute of injury-time when Ries Stanislaus found space on the edge of the box but his shot deflected just wide.

City boss Adie Britton took the chance to give new signing Kaid Mohamed a run-out for the final 10 minutes in place of goalscorer Edwards but he was unable to make much of an impression.
