Bath City keep up their good form with win over Worcester
Bath City 1 Worcester City 0: Bath City maintained their strong end-of-season form with a battling victory over long-standing opponents Worcester City.
With continuing doubts about Hampton and Richmond's eligibility for promotion, there is still an outside possibility of Bath making the play-offs.
With both sides having made changes following matches on Saturday, it was Worcester who made the brighter start, with plenty of possession. But their final ball into the box posed little threat to Bath.
Gradually Bath began to apply some pressure and scored the only goal of the game on 22 minutes when Chris Holland put in a glancing header from a Lewis Hogg corner.
The home side then went on to enjoy their best spell of the match, with an Ali Gibb free-kick being parried away for a corner, before another Holland header from a Gibb cross going narrowly wide of the upright.
With Stuart Douglas getting in on the act and twice having shots blocked, once by the keeper and the second time by his own player, it looked only a matter of time before Bath added to their total. However, the second period was a different story with Worcester again starting brightly, forcing Bath keeper Paul Evans into two early saves. Yet as the half wore on, the game looked to be petering out to a draw until the closing stages.
With eight minutes to go, Marco Addagio saw his shot come back off the bar, but Bath then retaliated through substitute Josh Klein-Davies.
In stoppage time, the Bristol Rovers loanee hit the bar with a spectacular overhead kick followed seconds later by narrowly failing to squeeze a shot round the post and instead putting the ball into the side netting.
"It was a bit of a battle but overall it's been a good run for us" said Bath assistant manager Lee Howells.
"It's a bit of a shame when you look back and think we could have picked up just those few extra points, but if we can have good games against Chelmsford and Thurrock in our last two matches, let's just hope we can sneak in the back door."
Team Bath were beaten 4-2 at Newport, for whom Craig Reid, Wayne Turk, Paul Cochlin and Danny Rose scored to put them 4-0 up before Gary Warren and substitute Tom Piotrowski replied.
