Bath City are facing a centre-half crisis ahead of Saturday's home game with Newport County.

Regulars Matt Coupe and Chris Holland are both doubtful and manager Adie Britton has no reserve centre-backs in his squad.

Right-back Gethin Jones would normally switch inside, but he is also a doubt as he is nursing a groin strain. Britton is hoping one of the trio will be fit to play alongside captain and left-back Jim Rollo in the heart of defence, with Sekani Simpson and Martyn Slocombe moving from the wings to cover the full-back slots.

Bath's financial predicament means even an emergency loan signing is out of the question at present.

Coupe has an infected toe and Holland was unable to complete Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Eastleigh.

Former Cheltenham Town central midfielder Adam Connolly is also battling against injury.

After the Eastleigh game, Britton described the Hampshire team as the biggest side he has ever faced, with nine players 6ft tall or more.

"They deserved what they got because they out-fought us and it is not often you can say that," he said.

But now the Romans have two home games in four days – Thurrock visit Twerton Park next Tuesday night – to reignite their play-off push.

"It is a good opportunity for us but the test is for us to find enough players to do the job," said Britton, who is hoping for a four-figure attendance.

"There should be a good crowd and a good atmosphere with Newport doing well. If we can get a decent side out I feel confident about us against anybody."

Bath midfielder Scott Rogers is on loan at Newport but will not feature against his parent club.

"Scott won't play and he will be back with us at the end of his loan next week," said Britton.

Veteran goalkeeper Steve Perrin will continue for Bath but Paul Evans is close to returning after knee surgery, with Britton predicting a return in two weeks' time for the stopper.

"I think Paul will be back the week after next," added Britton.

Team Bath, who lost 2-0 at home to Worcester City on Tuesday, do not have a fixture this weekend.

Weston-super-Mare will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host St Albans, after their 1-0 defeat at Newport County on Wednesday.

Andy Gurney's side, who also have a home game with Havant & Waterlooville on Monday, lost midfielder Ashan Holgate with an ankle injury at Newport and he will miss this match. Holgate's ankle was put in plaster after the game and there are fears that he could be out for a long time.

Weston will also be without Charlie Comyn-Platt, who serves a one-match ban for picking up five bookings. However, former Newport midfielder Adie Harris is available to face Havant after missing the game against his old club on Wednesday because of a clause in the transfer deal that took him to the Seagulls.
