Bath City 1 Lewes 1: Adie Britton admits he needs some more fit players – and quickly – with Bath City having won just once in seven games.

Saturday's 1-1 draw with lowly Lewes, in front of the smallest Twerton Park crowd for a league game in 14 years, left City in the bottom half of the table.

Things do not get any easier in the coming weeks with trips to the top two, Dover Athletic and Newport County, either side of an FA Cup tie which City must win to boost their finances.

But their cause is not being helped by a series of debilitating injuries and they looked noticeably heavy-legged during the last 30 minutes against Lewes, a period in which they let the lead slip and could have lost the game.

"That was probably our worst performance of the season, we just looked lethargic throughout the afternoon," Britton admitted.

"We played some good football sporadically, but apart from Gethin Jones and Lewis Hogg, the rest of the players didn't do enough on the day.

"It's desperately disappointing because this is the type of side you want to put away at home. Our appetite in the first half wasn't good enough, but we picked up for a quarter of an hour or so in the second half.

"However, we just looked very, very leggy for the last 20 minutes.

"Looking at the bigger picture, we quite clearly need some fit players and we need them quickly, otherwise we are heading for mid-table mediocrity. That isn't good enough for me and it shouldn't be good enough for the players.

"Whether it is possible to get someone in during the next week or so, just to tide us over, I'm not sure. That's a discussion I'll have to have with the chairman."

City looked like a team in need of reinforcements on Saturday as they produced a well below-par performance.

Lewes were even worse for most of a low-quality game, which saw both sides sqaunder possession and struggle to create chances.

City striker Kaid Mohamed was caught offside countless times during the afternoon but did produce a composed finish after excellent midfield work by Adam Connolly to give the hosts the lead on 53 minutes.

But Lewes grabbed an equaliser nine minutes from time when goalkeeper Steve Perrin flapped at a corner, Andrew Pearson headed against the bar and substitute Louis Pople forced home the rebound from close range.
