Barnsley have turned down what they describe as a "decent" offer from Bristol City for their highly-rated Brazilian midfielder Anderson De Silva.

Barnsley boss Simon Davey says the 26-year-old has attracted interest from the Robins for a couple of weeks but their bid did not match Barnsley's valuation.

Davey said: "We've given them a figure and they'll come back or not come back. At the moment, it's not right for the club to sell Anderson."

Barnsley signed De Silva from Everton at the beginning of last season after he had spent a year on loan at Oakwell.

Da Silva, who is the cousin of Bristol City goalkeeper Adriano Basso, made 37 league appearances for Barnsley last season and scored two goals.

City manager Gary Johnson stated this week that the Robins have made bids for four players and De Silva would appear to be one of them.

“SL is a legend. He was devastated when we lost to Hull in the Play offs, so hopefully this'll be our year (09/10). Should he have invested more last year though?
    Either way, hes a legend.”

“Anderson Da Silva, Lee Martin, Mark yeates, Sodje - those are the ones in the media and with the likes of Scott Sinclair and Paul Gallagher being linked as well it seems that City are gearing up for a mega-spend this season.

Thanks SL - lets hope we get some quality in and the team this season matches your amibition.”
