Ban from football games after attack on steward
A KINGSWOOD man has been banned from all football matches in the UK and abroad for three years after assaulting a steward at a Bristol Rovers game.
Richard Talbot, 45, of Stanton Close, was one of a number of Rovers supporters ejected from the Cheltenham Town ground when the teams met on the Gloucestershire side's Whaddon Road pitch last month.
He admitted assault by beating and possession of class B drugs when he appeared before Cheltenham magistrates. As well as the banning order, he was fined £350 and ordered to pay £50 to the steward.
Stewards and police officers ejected the supporters after disorder broke out when Rovers scored the first goal at the fixture on January 21.
Talbot ran back towards the ground and assaulted the steward, a 29-year-old man from Cheltenham, by kicking him in the knee. When he was arrested, a quantity of amphetamines were found on him.
The banning order means Talbot will be not be able to attend any match in the country and will be required to surrender his passport when certain fixtures are played overseas.
Three other cases involving men charged with offences during the match were adjourned by the court.
Paschal Hope, 59, of Oldland Common, is accused of common assault in connection with a spitting incident at the game.
Daniel Poole, 20, of Whittucks Road, Hanham, is charged with entering the playing area and Jake House, 21, of Lime Road, Hanham, is accused of throwing a missile.
