DAZED And Amazed appreciated a drop in grade after running at Goodwood and scored readily from former course winner Desperate Dan in the Stone King Sewell Claiming Stakes at Bath.

Pat Dobbs hit the front inside the final furlong to land the prize for the Marlborough team of Richard Hannon, who had won both of the Goss Million Sales Races at The Curragh on Sunday.

Richard Hannon Junior remained in Ireland to spend some of the winnings at the sales, while his father was with his runners at Windsor, leaving travelling head lad Carl Hatfield to collect the Trophy.

A tremendous gamble came unstuck in the John Sisk 150th Anniversary Maiden Stakes when Ed Vaughan's Fulham Broadway trailed in third, having been backed from 14-1 in the morning exchanges down to 9-4 favourite on course.

Jamie Spencer took up the running on the colt but could not match the finishing speed of Brief Encounter, ridden by Liam Keniry for trainer Andrew Balding, and the runner-up Verte Rue, under Shane Kelly.

"He is improving all the time and Liam said he was never going better than when passing the line," said Balding, following the three-and-a-half length success.

Apprentice David Probert suffered an ankle injury following an incident in the stalls while mounted on Vanos, and had to give up his remaining rides.

The versatile Pseudonym won for the second time on the Flat, to add to victories over fences and hurdles, when taking the Tarmac South West Handicap over the testing two-mile one-furlong trip.

Richard Thomas, replacing Probert, set the early pace on Abstract Colours before Keniry swooped on Pseudonym, then held on by a short head from the fast-finishing Callisto Moon, partnered by Stephen Donohoe.

The strongly fancied Excelsior Academy was another beaten favourite, going down by a short head to Blue Dynasty after running wide on the bottom bend.

Spencer drove the reluctant Excelsior Academy back into the lead, only to be nailed close home by Blue Dynasty.

Michael Hills struck in the EBF/Thorn Baker and Recruitment Stakes on Basanti, trained by his father Barry at Lambourn.

The three-year-old trotted up by six lengths from John Gosden's Orange River, piloted by Steve Drowne.

Katia Scallan recorded the second success of her career by a neck on Cinerama, from the Lambourn yard of Marcus Tregoning in the Pertemps Apprentice Series Handicap, but Amy Scott was stretchered off the track after parting company with Bramalea.

She was taken to hospital suffering concussion and an ankle injury.
