People in Backwell are to be asked their views on how they would like the village to develop in the future.

A questionnaire is being delivered to all 1,800 households in the village as part of a drive to put together a community plan.

The survey is being headed up by a group of volunteers who set up the Backwell Community Plan Project.

A team of 50 volunteers have been delivering the questionnaires throughout the village this week.

A pre-survey consultation was launched by the group in January this year to give them an idea of what questions to include in the document.

The results of the earlier consultation revealed people wanted to see a café in Backwell and were keen to see the village's swimming pool kept open.

The questionnaire covers five key elements – the built environment, environment, transport, recreation and community.

The costs of carrying out the survey have been funded by Backwell Parish Council.

Community plan chairman, Doug Minter, said: "Rather than it just being a case of those with the loudest voice getting heard, we wanted to collate the opinions of the whole village to get their views on how they want Backwell to develop over the next 10 years.

"The feedback from the questionnaire will become a blueprint for the future of the village and be used when considering future developments and initiatives."

The deadline for responses to the questionnaire is mid- June and boxes for people to leave their replies are available at Taylor's Newsagents, Backwell Post Office and Backwell Motors.

The group will then start to go through the information and compile a report and recommendations which will go before the parish council to be adopted.

Anyone living in the village who has not received a questionnaire should contact Mr Minter on 01275 462815.
