Second-placed Backwell United, who trail leaders Cheddar by two points, kept up their form in the Errea Somerset County League Premier Division with a 5-0 home victory against struggling Timsbury Athletic.

They took the lead on the half-hour, when Kevin Taylor headed over the advancing Timsbury goalkeeper and into an empty net.

Ben Garland quickly added a second and Taylor completed his double on the stroke of half-time to make it 3-0.

A fine individual effort from Jimmy Vowles on the hour made it 4-0 and then Garland completed his double in the 75th minute when cutting inside this marker to score a fine goal.

Brislington Reserves, who were promoted from Division One last year, had Steve Baddock in charge on Saturday as manager Dave Payne was on holiday.

In Payne's absence, his side moved into third place with a 4-1 home victory over a young Mangotsfield United Reserves side.

They took the lead in the 20th minute through Chris Cowles, whose cross-cum-shot found the back of the net.

Mangotsfield got back on terms before the interval, only for Taylor Clark to restore the Brislington lead a minute before the break with a well-struck volley.

Ten minutes into the second half Lee Perks turned his marker to add a third, and Jack Szur completed the scoring with the best goal of the match when he broke from the halfway line to score with a well-struck drive.

Cheddar proved too strong for bottom-of-the-table Taunton Blackbrook as they ran out easy 8-2 winners, while Winscombe went down 2-1 in their home clash with Bishops Lydeard.

In Division One, Stockwood Green were 3-2 winners at Worle to maintain their two-point lead at the top over Ilminster Town, who were 7-1 winners at Radstock Town Reserves.

Despite being without five players through injuries and holidays, Stockwood Green made a good start, going ahead in the fifth minute, when Chris Saunders blocked a Worle clearance to score.

Jake James then cut in from the left to net with a curling shot into the far corner, before Chris Saunders ran on to a through ball to make it 3-0 after 20 minutes.

From there they took their foot off the pedal to allow Worle back into it and were fortunate to hang on in the end.
