Backwell United boss Andy Cooper has warned pretenders to the Somerset County League Premier Division throne that Nailsea United can reclaim their title.

The sides clash at the Rec with Nailsea surprisingly languishing in 12th spot and a daunting 12 points behind current pacesetters Frome.

Cooper insisted, however: "Nailsea have enough games in hand to bounce back and they're strong and well-organised. But we'll give them a hard match."

In the meantime, Shirehampton could return to the summit tomorrow if they can win at Cheddar and Frome and Bridgwater both slip up.

Cleeve West Town manager Sean McLaughlin did not attempt to disguise the importance of his team's home clash with basement rivals Odd Down Reserves. "We badly need three points," he accepted.

Cutters Friday's impressive four-match winning stretch has propelled them into fifth spot ahead of their tough fixture with sixth-placed visitors Mangotsfield Reserves.

Saltford boss Glyn Ashton expressed his delight at his side's current fifth place in the first division table heading into their match at Larkhall.

But he confessed: "I'm certainly not dreaming of a title success.

"Our aim in our first season was to stabilise things and get young players through and we're doing that."

Second-placed Fry Club could hand debuts to winger Jamie Smith, signed from Mangotsfield United, and ex-AEK Boco striker James Lever in tomorrow's away meeting with out-of-sorts Stockwood Green Robinsons, who could hand a debut to reserve-team striker Brett Bowman.

Kriss Allen returns to his old stamping ground for Keynsham Reserves as they go to Paulton for an important top-four tussle.

Dave Payne is calling on his unchanged Brislington Reserves team to capitalise on their three-game winning run when they travel to play Peasedown for a mid-table affair, while Nailsea Town aim to improve on sixth place at home to Street.
