A baby was apparently abandoned in ladies' toilets at Bristol Temple Meads Station, police have revealed.

The eight-month-old boy was found in the toilet at 9.30pm on November 14.

British Transport Police only made details of the incident public yesterday, when they announced that the child's mother had been charged with exposing a child to danger.

The 25-year-old woman, who is from South Wales but was living in Devon at the time, has been released on police bail.

Police said the baby was found uninjured in the ladies' toilets at Bristol Temple Meads on November 14.

The woman, who has not been named, is due to appear at South Devon Magistrates' Court on December 4.

The baby was yesterday being looked after by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's social services department, where a spokesman said he was safe and well.

“I have read all the comments written regarding this very sad situation. the question should be "why did'nt the heath vistors recognise the fact that this mummy was finding things tough?".The mummy must have been in a very distressed to do what she did and she may truley believe she did the right thing for her baby at that time. The so called professinals should be more aware of the symptons of PND.”

“it takes an extremely desperate mother to abandon their baby, i suspect that severe postnatal depression has played a big part in what she did.

if the baby was otherwise fit and healthy then i dont think the mother should be charged she should be given the help she needs to get herself sorted to ensure a happier future for her and her child. i wish them both the best. :)”

“I don't suppose the male species had anything to do with the production of the baby, did it Gary, Cornwall?

Unless, of course, the baby was produced by an immaculate conception.

The lady in queston needs help.”

“"Even as a man I understand it is not uncommon for females of any species to reject a baby. " Come on Gary!! Do you not think that the human species has moved on a bit from the basic animal instinct to reject an offspring (usually if unhealthy)? You did make me smile!
I think this is a lot more likely to do with severe postnatal depression, and an inability to cope for whatever reason. I really hope she gets the help she needs, so that she can get back on track at being the best mum she can! Good luck and I'm glad the baby was found safe & well! could so easily have been a different headline.”

“I hope it does have a happy ending, as for slating Social Services, stand corrected, they may not have known, but hopefully as the child is in care he will have the care that is needed for him to lead a normal life and for his mother all the help that is needed as well.”

“To those that are slating social services, why on earth should they be blamed/brought into this matter? This woman obviously isn't well and needs help, but doesn't necessarilly mean she was known to social services. They are not mind readers or miracle workers and the sooner the public see that the better.”

“well said Lynns. This woman/girl was obviously in a horrendous position. I hope she is okay, and is able to get help. For all we know she is 13 and terrified and didn't even know what was happening to her. Hopefully she will realise that no one is judging, we just want to help.”
