BSA league results - June 30, July 1 and 2
First Division
Bristol Creamers 12 Forks 11
With temperatures at the hottest this season, Creamers kept their cool and closed down the Forks in the first two innings with some solid fielding. A good display of batting in the first innings gave them an early lead. But the Forks shook off the heat and came back in the 3rd to take the lead. Creamers Austrian fastpitch visitors clearly had the Forks rattled but the game was close all the way to the 7th innings. Forks had a three point lead to protect at the top of the 7th but Creamers kept their heads and batted well. With bases loaded Paul Mills stepped into the batting box and hit a scorching mid-field drive grandslam homerun giving the Creamers a well needed victory.
LSDs 14 Real Flyers 7
Another low scoring game involving the Flyers saw the LSD’s concede seven runs in the second innings but shut out the Flyers for the rest of the match in a pitching display of quality from the man Rich Hawkins aka ‘Ginge’ . A three-run hit in the second and some scrappy fielding to let in four in the third, meant that the Flyers were always chasing and despite two outstanding stops in the fourth by Flyers Second Baseman Jo Beames the accumulation of LSD runs meant that the Flyers required a ‘monster’ innings in the last to force the game. The ‘monster' innings made zero and that was was ballgame. It was noted by the BLU at the end of the match that both teams were a joy to umpire due to their sportspersonship. MVP for the girls was 3rd Base Sam Brazier for the Flyers and MVP for the boys was the LSD's pitcher 'Ginge'.
Grandslammers 9 Tbolts 7
A tightly-fought game with both teams unable to score more than a couple of runs per innings went the way of Grandslammers when they pushed in four runs in the 5th innings to which Tbolts were unable to respond.
