Youngsters are visiting a Barnardo's fundraising store in Weston-super-Mare today to make a donation.

The Axe District Scouts will hand over a cheque for £550 to the Worle High Street branch to help disadvantaged and vulnerable children.

Most of the money was raised through a collection during the St George's Day parade in Weston, boosted by other recent donations.

Michaela Heath, of Axe District Scouts, said: "We take part in the parade every year and always like to choose a charity, which works with local children.

"Normally we would expect to collect up to £400, so everyone is absolutely delighted with this result."

Barnardo's shop manager Anita Waite said: "The money will be used to support Barnardo's work with children and young people challenged by poverty, abuse, disability and discrimination."
