A Bristol school has been shortlisted for a new national award.

The teaching newspaper The Times Educational Supplement has launched its first Schools Awards to celebrate and reward teams in schools.

There are 15 categories, for which hundreds of schools have been nominated.

The City Academy in Lawrence Hill is up against five other schools in the Outstanding Community Achievement category.

Its citation says: "Community engagement and partnerships division runs an adult learning centre and a range of projects to raise school attainment.

"Its work on three campuses last year provided adult learning for more than 2,000 people from 60 countries.

"Community partnership includes lessons for parents and teams of workers to support children taking GCSEs and Sats."

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the London Hilton in Park Lane on June 9.
