Avonmouth bridge work due to start
Work is due to start in less than two weeks' time to resurface the northbound carriageway of the M5 Avonmouth Bridge.
The work, which is expected to cause delays at peak times, is expected to start from September 2, with the cones put out the day before to avoid the bank holiday.
It is part of £25m of road improvements and will take up to six months to finish.
There will be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit on the bridge while the work is carried out.
Speed cameras will be used to enforce the speed limit.
Three lanes will remain open in each direction but a contraflow system is expected to be used at some stages during the work.
Highways Agency project manager Dave Stock said: "The existing surface was laid during the previous strengthening contract which started in 1995 and has reached the end of its effective life.
"The southbound carriageway was resurfaced during the autumn of 2008 using a material which can be machine-laid, providing an improved surface finish.
"The northbound carriageway will be surfaced with the same material, which is designed to last longer and give a smoother ride.
"We will keep three of the four lanes open in each direction to minimise disruption. However, some peak time delays should be expected and drivers are advised to allow more time for journeys."
The agency hopes the work will be completed by Christmas but it is dependent on the weather and rainfall during the autumn.
