No formal identification has taken place yet, but a post-mortem examination will be conducted today.
Yesterday afternoon, police sealed off nine areas where bins had been collected earlier in the day.
They were not looking for evidence, but preserving the areas in case forensics were needed later.
One of those police cordons remains in place in Bristol as police investigate the addresses where bins were collected from yesterday.
Police say they are still keeping an open mind about the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
UPDATE 11.50AM:
Police activity is now focused on a bin collection in Jacobs Wells Road which is the only site still sealed off.
Anyone who was in the Jacob Wells Road area in the early hours of Thursday morning and people with information they believe might help the investigation should contact police on 101.
