Avon Youth League Under-12s roundup
AVON Athletic Under-12s gave Bitton a lesson in finishing with an 8-1 Division 1 drubbing.
Playing up the slope, first-half goals from Sergio Smith and James Whittaker put them in control before six second-half strikes by Shane Goodman, Daniel Rugman, Ollie Campball (2), Dominic Griffths and an own goal sealed a great win.
Harry Neil's hat-trick, which took his goal tally for the season to 10, saw Keynsham A come away with three points in an entertaining 6-3 victory over St Nicholas.
Their other goals came from Callum Fry, with a superb left-foot volley, Dan Colquhoun, who played a neat one-two with Neil before curling the ball home from the edge of the box, and Kieran Thomas, with a 25-yard screamer into the top corner.
Saints replied through Sam Gilchrist (2) and George Box.
Stoke Lane chalked up an impressive 4-1 win over Oldland Abbotonians. Two goals from Curtis Walters set them on their way with Rhys Hodgson and Harry Sweeten completing the scoring.
Outstanding performances from Lane's Scott Ball and Will Clarke at the back limited Oldland to a single reply.
Longwell Green made a flying start in their Division II fixture with Fry Club Colts when Stuart Harmer beat three players to score in the opening minutes.
Josh Langdon skilfully made it 2-0 before the break and Longwell continued to dominate in the second half as they went on to win 4-0.
Langdon made it 3-0 when his shot was deflected in by an Fry's defender and the fourth came from Robert Goscombe-Best, who had gone close with several earlier attempts.
The final margin of victory could have been higher. Toby Clifton and Jacob Wherry-Alimo sent Harmer through but his effort was ruled out for offside, while Daniel Nash saw his free-kick from just outside the box crash back off the crossbar.
In Division IV, Coalpit Heath completed a superb 2-1 away victory over a well-organised Fishponds OB side.
The hosts went in front early on with a close-range goal but Heath were on level terms by half-time after Ashton Coleman fired the equaliser into the roof of the net.
Man-of-the-match Connor Summers had a fine game in goal, as did his opposite number as Heath searched for the winner. Tom Ruff almost provided it with a stunning 30-yard strike that crashed against the bar.
However, with 10 minutes remaining Conor Heal cut through the home defence before curling a beauty into the corner of the net for the winner.
Bristol United B secured their first points of the Division V season with a 5-3 win over Downend Wanderers.
A much-improved team display was capped by goals from Matt Braybrooke, Kieran Summers, Jay Mitson and Louis Hatton (2).
