which took place in Camborne, Cornwall on Saturday. The ladies chorus, who

enjoy singing competitively, and entertaining locally, were taking part in the Camborne

Music Festival for the second time, having also won an award when they last

competed there in 2008.

Led by their recently

appointed Musical Director, Alex de Bruin, the chorus sang three contrasting

songs in unaccompanied four part harmony. For the two newest members of the

chorus, Linda Salter and Rachel Dunn, it was their first taste of singing with

the chorus in competition.

Musical Director Alex de

Bruin said after the competition "I'm so proud of Avon Harmony; every

single member has worked so hard, resulting in a brilliant win. The

adjudicator's comments show that we are ready to step up to the next level. I

would like to thank our coaches, Linda Corcoran (MD of Bristol's Great Western

Chorus) and Liz Garnett for their help and support, as well as all the husbands

and partners of the chorus members, who have been so supportive"

The chorus, which meets

regularly on Thursday evenings for rehearsals at Fairfield High School in

Horfield, welcomes new members, who do not need to be able to read music in

order to join.

Future plans include

running a short course for women wanting to find out more about singing in four

part harmony in March next year and taking part in the Open Choir Festival 2013

in Torquay next February.
