Athletics briefs: Marathon joy for Phillipa: Weston AC's Phillipa Stevens won the Cornish marathon in a time of 3hrs 15mins 22secs.

Westbury Harriers' veteran Andrew Gibbons came 151st in 4:19.35.

Cornish marathon – men: 1 Shaun Milford (NRR, M45) 2:45.22; 2 Andy Drake-Norris (Tama T) 2:57.09; 3 Dave Stone (Exm) 2:57.20.

Women: 1 Phillipa Stevens (Weston, W35) 3:15.22. 213 finishers.

Former Clifton pupil stars

Justin Chaston, who finished third in the British & Irish Masters Cross Country Championships last weekend, is a former member of Bristol AC and was a student at Clifton College.

He later went on to compete in the Olympic Games and is now based in America.

Tim takes 25th place

Bristol & West's Tim Wallis finished 25th, in a time of 33mins 33secs, in the Brooks Brighton 10k road race. There were 471 finishers.

Anyone fancy a 5K race?

The next event in the Winter Series of Bridge Inn 5K takes place on Tuesday, with entries on the night.

There is no race in December and the first race after Christmas is on Tuesday, January 27.

Cardiff hosts indoor event

The 2009 South West Indoor Championships will be held in UWIC Cardiff on January 10-11.

Middle distance races over 800m, 1,500m and 3,000m will be held in addition to the normal programme.

Mark makes the top 10

Mark Seale, of Bitton Road Runners, finished 10th in the Cirencester off-road duathlon.

Club-mate Mike Gibbs was eighth (61:09) in the Avebury eight miles multi-terrain race, while Kevin Mowatt completed the Seagrove Wolds Challenge, held over 15.5 miles, in a time of 2hrs 27mins.

Pair to run in Florence

The Bitton Road Runners' pair of Karen Dawkins and Peter Hopes are off to run in the 25th Florence Marathon a week tomorrow.
