Bristol Rovers players have shown their backing for a talented young boxer.

Pirates trio Craig Hinton, David Pipe and Mike Green called in to Barton Hill Amateur Boxing Club to congratulate 12-year-old Aston Grant, who has just won the Western Counties ABA Schools Championships final.

Bristol City fan Aston, who lives in Redfield and goes to St George School, now moves on to the national stages at Derby on February 15.

He fights in the Class One 38-40kgs category and Barton Hill chairman Tom Foley said: "Aston is now in the top 16 in the country."

Players from Bristol Rovers' Under-18 and Under-16 squads visit the boxing club for training on a regular basis.
