Allotment holders in Totterdown were clearing up yesterday after arsonists set fire to seven sheds in Perretts Park.

Police and fire crews were called to the area on Saturday night after the blazes were seen.

Jon Ross, one of those whose sheds were targeted, said: "When you spend months tending and nurturing plants from seedlings and devote your energy and time into keeping your plot neat and tidy, such wanton vandalism is absolutely heartbreaking."

He said his shed and some of its contents were damaged but other allotment holders saw their sheds destroyed.

"My neighbour lost her shed and also the wooden bench alongside," he said.

"The fire brigade did a fantastic job responding to the incident quickly and doing the minimum of damage to people's plots."
