A man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of carrying out seven sex attacks in Clifton.

A 29-year-old man from Bedminster was being questioned at a police station in Avon and Somerset.

Seven lone women in the Clifton area were attacked by a man, dubbed the Bristol Groper, between October 6 and November 21 last year.

The attacks mainly happened in the early hours of the morning in and around Whiteladies Road.

Four of the victims were students; all aged in their 20s.

Last month, police released CCTV images of a man they wanted to speak to and offered a £5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the offender.

The first attack happened on October 6 at around 8.30pm in Worcester Terrace, when a 27-year-old woman was attacked.

He next struck on October 12 at about 2am, when he sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman in Pembroke Road.

On October 24, he attacked a 21-year-old woman at about 7.15pm in Hanbury Road.

His next two attacks were on the same day, November 8. A 26-year-old woman was assaulted at about 2.30am close to her house just off Whiteladies Road.

He struck again about 45 minutes later, this time a 20-year-old woman in Alma Road.

On November 18, he attacked a 20-year-old woman in Redland Park at about 5pm.

His last reported attack was on November 21, at about 3.30am in Hampton Park.

Two men previously arrested in connection with the attacks have since been released without charge.
