Arrest over Burnham attack
A man has been arrested and bailed in connection with a sex assault in Burnham-on-Sea.
The 27-year-old man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Police put out an appeal earlier this week following a serious sexual assault on a 17-year-old woman.
The assault occurred between 10pm on Tuesday December 23 and 2am on Wednesday December 24. The victim, who is not from the area, had spent some time in the Wetherspoons public house on Pier Street during the evening and at some point after leaving was subjected to the assault.
Afterwards she made her way to the home of someone she knew in the town and the assault was reported to police.
Detectives investigating the incident are particularly keen to speak to a group of men who were seen talking to an American woman at the Wetherspoons pub between 9.30pm and midnight.
These men may have important information which could help the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Bridgewater CID on 0845 456 7000.
