An Avonmouth man is preparing to jog 10 miles with a 35lb rucksack on his back in aid of injured servicemen and women.

Stuart Weightman will run from Avonmouth railway station to Bristol Temple Meads station on Saturday, September 12, to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Mr Weightman, who lives in Meadow Street, plans to start the jog at 11am and hopes to finish by 2pm.

He said: "My motive for doing this is that I have a brother-in-law in the Special Forces Support Group (1 Para), who has seen action in Iraq and will in the near future be going to Afghanistan.

"I have another brother-in-law who was in 3 Para and experienced fierce combat in Afghanistan in 2006.

"The point behind a 10-mile run is that it is part of the selection procedure for the Parachute Regiment. I am not a seasoned athlete but someone who cares passionately about the cause. I originate from Berkshire and the support that I have received so far has been excellent – a credit to Bristol."
