The Bristol Post

I WONDER if any of your readers have had the experience I, myself, and possibly many others have had with the NHS.

I attended my GP for a complaint a while ago and asked if (as promised) a letter had been written to a counsellor in the NHS, as I had heard nothing for some time.

I was told that I couldn't see a counsellor because, whilst I lived in the Kingswood area, I couldn't be seen because my GP's practice was in the Bristol area, even though the practice was within walking distance. It happened a few weeks later I was reading a paragraph in a newspaper which told of a recent 'postcode lottery' of a young boy who suffered from a difficult complaint who because some health authorities provide the operation on the NHS, living just a couple of miles away in Kingswood, the young lad doesn't qualify. Therefore his parents are trying to raise funds to have the op done in America.

I felt so incensed about this I have written to my MP (Chris Skidmore) and am awaiting his reply.

The fact that you can't have an operation done because you don't have the right postcode is appalling.
