A VIGIL will be held in the city centre to remember animals that have suffered cruelty.

The ceremony in St Augustine's Parade will mark International Animal Rights Day on Friday.

Campaigners will light candles to remember the billions of animals across the world that are subjected to deliberate cruelty and killing every year.

The vigil will be held near Bristol Hippodrome from 4pm to 7pm and will coincide with events that are taking place across the world.

The aim is to promote debate about the rights of animals.

A spokesperson for Bristol Animal Rights Collective said: "All animals, not just humans, are individuals in their own right, and can suffer emotional and physical pain.

"Animals are powerless, and we can all make a difference immediately by taking responsibility for what we eat, buy, and what charities we support."
